Scholarship money totaling $11,000 will be awarded to the winners of the first Student Concerto Competition sponsored by the Utah Wind Symphony and its corporate sponsor, the Legacy Music Alliance.

There are three divisions – junior high school, high school and college – and the competition is open to woodwind, brass and percussion students. The top three winners will perform with the Utah Wind Symphony at its March 29, 2012, concert in the Rose Wagner Theater.

Applications can be downloaded at www.utahwindsymphony.org. Applications must include a DVD recording and a $75 non refundable fee and be postmarked no later than Jan. 3, 2012. Applicants will be notified on Jan. 21, 2012, if they have been selected for a live audition to determine the winners. The audition will take place on Jan. 28, 2012, at the Summerhays Recital Hall in Salt Lake City. Winners will be announced on Jan. 30, 2012.
