UTAH OPERA ANNOUNCES 2011-12 SEASON

Utah Opera has announced its 2011-12 lineup, which includes Ludwig van Beethoven’s only opera,  Fidelio; two perennial favorites, Giuseppe Verdi’s Rigoletto and Gaetano Donizetti’s L’Elisir d’Amore (The Elixir of Love); and an American classic, Carlisle Floyd’s Of Mice and Men.

Below is the performance schedule. All performances take place in the Capitol Theatre:

  • Fidelio: Oct. 8, 10, 12 and 14 at 7:30 p.m.; Oct. 16 at 2 p.m.
  • Rigoletto: Jan. 21, 23, 25 and 27, 2012, at 7:30 p.m.; Jan. 29, 2012, at 2 p.m.
  • L’Elisir d’Amore: March 10, 12, 14 and 16, 2012, at 7:30 p.m.; March 18, 2012, at 2 p.m.
  • Of Mice and Men: May 5, 7, 9 and 11, 2012, at 7:30 p.m.; May 13, 2012, at 2 p.m.

Season tickets for Utah Opera’s new season go on sale March 1, 2012, and can be purchased either by calling 801-533-6683 or logging on to www.utahopera.org.

In addition to the performances, there are several pre- and post-performance events that operagoers are invited to attend:

Opera Preview Lectures:

Opera Preview Lectures are held at the Salt Lake City Library on the Wednesday before each opening night at 7:00 pm.

Opera Prelude:

Half-hour introductory lectures by Dr. Carol Anderson, Principal Coach, take place in the orchestra level of the Capitol Theatre one hour prior to curtain of each Utah Opera performance.

Post-Performance Q&A With Christopher McBeth:

Utah Opera artistic director Christopher McBeth answers questions about the opera immediately following each performance in the Founders Room on the mezzanine level of the Capitol Theatre.

CLASSICAL 89 BROADCASTS

Utah Opera performances are broadcast on KBYU-FM, Classical 89. A performance schedule is located at http://www.utahsymphony.org/broadcasts.php.

VIVACE AND CADENZA

Utah Symphony|Utah Opera offers two social and networking organizations, Vivace and Cadenza. Vivace subscribers receive discounted tickets, special program notes, after-parties with guest artists, great catering and the chance to mingle with musicians and guest artists. They will be invited to attend the opening night performance of Of Mice and Men on May 5, 2012. Cadenza members receive similar benefits as Vivace members and dine together at local restaurants before performances. They will be invited to attend a performance of L’Elisir d’Amore on March 16, 2012.
