UPCOMING CONCERTS FOR MAY 2-5, 2014

Several local performing groups will be doing concerts this weekend. Listed below is a schedule of events.

Salt Lake Children's Choir

  • SALT LAKE CHILDREN’S CHOIR. Under the direction of founder Ralph B. Woodward, the Salt Lake Children’s Choir will present its annual spring program on May 2-3. The concerts begin at 7:30 p.m. and will take place in St. Ambrose Church, 1975 S. 2300 East. Tickets are $9 for general admission and $6 for students and are available at Day Murray Music, 4914 S. State St., online at www.childrensing.com or at the door. Titled “From Vienna — to the Andes — to ‘The Sunny Side of the Street,’” the program will include works spanning four centuries and four continents and feature art songs, folk tunes and more popular fare.
  • DAVID PARK BENEFIT CONCERT. The Utah Symphony’s assistant concertmaster David Park will play a benefit concert on May 4 with all proceeds going to the victims of the recent South Korean ferry disaster. He will be joined by members of the Utah Symphony in a program that includes Mozart’s Divertimento in D major, K. 136, and Vivaldi’s The Four Seasons, both in versions for string quartet. The concert starts at 5 p.m. and takes place at the Korean Presbyterian Church, 1945 S. Redwood Rd.

    Brady Allred

  • MADELEINE FESTIVAL OF THE ARTS AND HUMANITIES. Brady Allred’s Salt Lake Choral Artists and Orchestra will perform Brahms’ A German Requiem in the Robert Shaw English language edition on May 4 at 8 p.m. The performance will be held in the Cathedral of the Madeleine. Soloists are soprano Carol Ann Allred and baritone Tyler Oliphant. The concert is free but seating passes are available. Call the cathedral at 801-328-8941 to reserve the passes.
  • UTAH CHAMBER ARTISTS. The ensemble will be touring Europe in June and on May 5 Barlow Bradford will lead his choir in a sneak peek of their a cappella tour program. The concert starts at 7:30 p.m. and takes place in Libby Gardner Concert Hall on the University of Utah campus. Tickets are $15 for general admission and $10 for students if purchased in advance; $17.50 and $12 if purchased on the day of the concert. The program will feature “Gloria,” by Lithuanian composer Vytautas Miskinis that was commissioned by UCA for the tour. Other works include pieces by Gesualdo, Howard Hanson, Morten Lauridsen, Barlow Bradford and Moses Hogan.
