THE VIENNA PIANO TRIO IN TWO UTAH CONCERTS

The chamber music societies of Salt Lake City and Logan will be hosting the Vienna Piano Trio next week.

On Feb. 14 the group will be in Libby Gardner Concert Hall in Salt Lake City. On the program is Joseph Haydn’s Piano Trio in E flat, Hob. XV:30; Robert Schumann’s Fantasiestücke, op 88; and Franz Schubert’s Piano Trio in B flat, op. 99.

The following evening they’ll be in Performance Hall on the Utah State University campus, where they’ll play Haydn’s Piano Trio in G minor, op. 15; Bedrich Smetana’s Piano Trio, op. 99; and Schubert’s Piano Trio in B flat, op. 99.

For over two decades, the Vienna Piano Trio has been a regular guest in the major concert and recital halls around the world. They also appear frequently at the Mozartwoche Salzburg and Beethovenfest Bonn festivals. In the 2011-12 season, the trio will be the ensemble-in-residence at Wigmore Hall in London.

The group has recorded numerous albums over the years. Among their recordings are trios by Haydn, Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, Ludwig van Beethoven, Antonin Dvorak, Dmitri Shostakovich and Alfred Schnittke for the Nimbus label. They’ve also recorded the complete Schubert trios for the MDG label, as well as works by Arnold Schoenberg, Gustav Mahler and Alexander von Zemlinsky.
