It’s almost May! A concert of light-hearted musical gems presented with period instruments and voices by Sine Nomine Consort

April 29, 2012,  5 p.m.,  All Saints Episcopal Church, 1710 S Foothill, FREE

Once again, Sine Nomine Consort is celebrating an occasion with a brief concert using voices and an array of early instruments. The celebration on April 29 honors the coming of spring, always a time of joy.  The ensemble will feature a rare cantata, The Stocking, by a composer known only as Mr. Stokes, which tells the story of love blooming under unusual circumstances. Additional works on the program include: compositions of Henry VIII, English Elizabethan madrigals, country dance tunes and popular songs, Jacobean instrumental pieces, and some concluding surprises.  The program will be followed by a light reception.

The five musicians of Sine Nomine are: Vanessa Bridge, Marlin Haws, Mary Johnson, Jay Jordan and Lauren Reiser, who play various recorders, krumhorns, harpsichord, viola da gamba, and also provide vocals for the songs.  Their activities outside of performing music encompass accounting, a university faculty position, private music instruction studios, directing church music program, creative crafts and painting, and parenting, along with an occasion tennis game, writing books, and whipping up sublime English lemon curd.
