The Utah Flute Association (UFA) has invited Canadian flutist Susan Hoeppner to come to Salt Lake City this weekend, where she’ll play a recital on Friday and give a master class the following day.

Hoeppner, a faculty member at the Royal Conservatory’s Glenn Gould School at the University of Toronto, is a much sought after performer and teacher. She has soloed with orchestras in North and South America, Europe and Asia, and has played recitals from China to Europe.

In 2012 Hoeppner was nominated for a JUNO Award for “Best Classical Album of the Year: Solo or Chamber” for American Flute Masterpieces, with pianist Lydia Wong on the Marquis Classics label.

For her Salt Lake City recital, Hoeppner will play a diverse program: J.S. Bach’s Sonata in A major, BWV 1032; Debussy’s Prélude à l’après-midi d’un faune; Eldin Burton’s Sonatina; Jules Mouquet’s La flûte de Pan; and Canadian composer Gary Kulesha’s Sonata, a work commissioned by Hoeppner and premiered by her and the composer in Toronto last year. Local pianist Jed Moss will accompany.

The recital takes place Friday at 7:30 p.m. in Dumke Recital Hall in David Gardner Hall on the University of Utah campus. Tickets are $5 for UFA members, $10 for non-members and $7 for seniors and students, and will be available at the door.

Hoeppner’s master class will be held Saturday starting at 9:30 a.m. in Dumke Recital Hall. In addition to the master class, there will be several other events during the day.

Saturday’s program of events, including the master class, are free for UFA members and $25 for non-members.
