BARBARA SCOWCROFT TO LEAD SALT LAKE SYMPHONY NEXT WEEKEND

Barbara Scowcroft

The Salt Lake Symphony’s next concert, on April 30, will be under the baton of guest conductor Barbara Scowcroft. She’ll be leading the ensemble in Edvard Grieg’s orchestral arrangement of one of his songs, The Last Spring, and in Anton Bruckner’s most frequently played work, the Symphony No. 4, “Romantic.”

Scowcroft has directed the Salt Lake Symphony in the past, and conducting is a big part of what she does. A member of the Utah Symphony’s first violin section for over two decades, Scowcroft is also the music director of the Utah Youth Symphony and has guest conducted at the Grand Teton Music Festival. She is also the resident conductor of the American Festival for the Arts in Houston.

She headed the NOVA Chamber Music Series from 1986-2004 and was music director of the Vivaldi by Candlelight concerts between 1997-2004.

The Salt Lake Symphony concert begins at 7:30 p.m. and takes place in Libby Gardner Concert Hall. Prior to the concert, at 6:15 p.m., Scowcroft will talk about the program. That is free of charge and takes place in Room 270 in David Gardner Hall.

Tickets for the concert are $10 for general admission and $5 for seniors and students and are available by calling 801-531-7501. Tickets will also be available at the door.
