AUTUMN CLASSICS FESTIVAL TO PRESENT THREE CONCERTS THIS WEEKEND

The Beethoven Festival Autumn Classics will present three concerts this weekend in Park City.

An offshoot of the summer Beethoven Festival Park City, which is Utah’s longest running classical music festival, Autumn Classics brings together a number of renowned chamber musicians. This year, the focus will be on local artists Monte Belknap, violin, professor of violin on Brigham Young University’s music faculty and Julie Bevan, cello, a former student of the famed cellist Gregor Piatigorsky.

Joining them will be festival co-directors Leslie Harlow, viola, and Russell Harlow, clarinet. Guest pianist Michael Gurt, a former Gina Bachauer gold medalist, will also be on hand. Gurt has been a frequent guest; he is a charter member of the festival and has been a regular visitor to Park City since the original festival’s founding in 1984.

There will be concerts on Friday and Sunday. On Saturday there will be a benefit salon concert in a private residence in Park City.

Tickets for the Friday and Sunday concerts are $20 for regular admission, $15 for seniors and students. Music students are admitted free of charge. Tickets will be available at the door.

  • Oct. 5, 7:30 p.m. (Park City Community Church, U-224 at Bear Hollow Dr.). Program: Mussorgsky’s Pictures at an Exhibition, for solo piano; Mozart’s Quartet K. 496 for clarinet and strings; Beethoven’s Sonata No. 8 for violin and piano. Performers: Michael Gurt, piano; Monte Belknap, violin; Russell Harlow, clarinet; Leslie Harlow, viola; Julie Bevan, cello.
  • Oct. 6, 6:30 p.m. Salon Concert to be held in a Park City home; enjoy food and virtuoso showpieces and ensemble works by the festival artists. Email lharlow01@comcast.net for reservations.
  • Oct. 7, 3 p.m. (Temple Har Shalom, 3700 N. Brookside Ct., Park City). Program: Prokofiev’s Piano Sonata op. 84; Debussy’s Two Arabesques for clarinet and piano; Fauré’s Piano Quartet in C minor. Performers: Michael Gurt, piano, Monte Belknap, violin, Russell Harlow, clarinet, Leslie Harlow, viola and Julie Bevan, cello.
