2012 CLASSICAL MUSIC GRAMMY AWARD WINNERS ANNOUNCED

Grammy Award winners were announced last night in Los Angeles. Below is the list of winners in each of the classical categories:

  • Best Orchestral Performance: Brahms: Symphony No. 4; Gustavo Dudamel, conductor, Los Angeles Philharmonic (Deutsche Grammophon)
  • Best Opera Recording: Adams: Doctor Atomic; Alan Gilbert, conductor, Meredith Arwady, Sasha Cooke, Richard Paul Fink, Gerald Finley, Thomas Glenn and Eric Owens, Metropolitan Opera Orchestra and Chorus (Sony Classical)
  • Best Choral Performance: Light & Gold; Eric Whitacre, conductor, Christopher Glynn and Hila Plitmann, The King’s Singers, Laudibus, Pavão Quartet and The Eric Whitacre Singers (Decca)
  • Best Small Ensemble Performance: Mackey: Lonely Motel – Music From Slide; Rinde Eckert and Steven Mackey; Eighth Blackbird (Cedille Records)
  • Best Classical Instrumental Solo: Schwantner: Concerto For Percussion and Orchestra; Giancarlo Guerrero, conductor, Christopher Lamb, Nashville Symphony; track from Schwantner: Chasing Light… (Naxos)
  • Best Classical Vocal Solo: Diva Divo; Joyce DiDonato, Kazushi Ono, conductor, Orchestre de l’Opéra National de Lyon; Chœur de l’Opéra National de Lyon (Virgin Classics)
  • Best Contemporary Classical Composition: Aldridge: Elmer Gantry; Robert Aldridge and Herschel Garfein (Naxos)
  • Best Engineered Album, Classical: Aldridge: Elmer Gantry; William Boggs, conductor, Keith Phares, Patricia Risley, Vale Rideout, Frank Kelley, Heather Buck, Milwaukee Symphony Orchestra and Florentine Opera Chorus (Naxos)
  • Producer Of The Year, Classical: Judith Sherman
