THE MET’S ‘LIVE IN HD’ SERIES STARTS SATURDAY

The Metropolitan Opera’s popular “Live in HD” series starts its eighth season Saturday with a new production of Tchaikovsky’s Eugene Onegin under the direction of Valery Gergiev. The cast includes Anna Netrebko, Mariusz Kwiecien and Piotr Beczala.

Other productions to be aired include Verdi’s Falstaff on Dec. 14 with long time Met music director James Levine making his return to the screen; and Mozart’s Così fan tutte on April 26, 2014.

Among the singers in these telecasts are Patricia Racette; Renée Fleming; Roberto Alagna; and Juan Diego Flórez.

  • Feb. 8, 2014 – Dvorák, Rusalka; with Renée Fleming, Piotr Beczala and Dolora Zajick; Yannick Nézet-Séguin, conductor.  
  • March 1, 2014, 10 a.m. – Borodin, Prince Igor (new production); with Ildar Abdrazakov; Gianandrea Noseda, conductor.
  • March 15, 2014 – Massenet, Werther (new production); with Jonas Kaufmann and Sophie Koch; Alain Altinoglu, conductor.
  • April 5, 2014 – Puccini, La bohème; with Anita Hartig, Vittorio Grigolo, Susanna Phillips and Massimo Cavalletti.
  • April 26, 20124 – Mozart, Così fan tutte; with Susanna Phillips, Isabel Leonard, Matthew Polenzani, Rodion Pogossov and Danielle de Niese; James Levine, conductor.
  • May 10, 2024 – Rossini, La cenerentola; with Joyce DiDonato, Juan Diego Flórez and Alessandro Corbelli; Fabio Luisi, conductor.
