The Utah Symphony has announced that pianist André Watts has had to cancel his appearance with the orchestra this weekend due to illness. Replacing him will be Conrad Tao, who will play the originally scheduled work, Beethoven’s Piano Concerto No. 5, Emperor.

The now 20-year-old Tao made his Utah Symphony debut in 2010 replacing another ailing soloist, Horacio Gutiérrez. In all, the young pianist has played with the orchestra on four occasions in the last five years.

Also on the program are two works by Aaron Copland, the Fanfare for the Common Man and the Symphony No. 3. Guest conductor Hugh Wolff will be on the podium.

The concerts take place this Friday and Saturday at 8 p.m. in Abravanel Hall. Tickets range from $18-$69 ($10 for students) and are available by calling 801-355-2787 or 888-451-2787 or by logging on to www.utahsymphony.org. Ticket prices increase $5 when purchased on the day of performance.
