BEETHOVEN FESTIVAL’S AUTUMN CLASSICS START THIS WEEKEND

The Beethoven Festival Park City’s 30th anniversary celebrations continue in October with the Autumn Classics Festival. There will be four concerts and salon events, including a special music/art matinee where participants can create visual art while listening to live music.

In addition to festival co-directors Leslie Harlow, viola, and Russell Harlow, clarinet, two renowned pianists will also perform: composer Bryan Stanley and former Gina Bachauer gold medalist Michael Gurt.

  • Oct. 4, 7 p.m., North Summit High School (111 E. 100 South, Coalville) – “Artist Showcase Concert.” The concert features Steinway artist and former Gina Bachauer International Piano Competition winner Michael Gurt, piano, Russell Harlow, clarinet, and Leslie Harlow, viola. Program: Selections from Clementi’s Piano Sonata in F sharp minor; Brahms’ Klavierstücke, op. 119, and Sonata in F minor, op. 120, no. 1, for clarinet and piano; solo piano works by Heitor Villa-Lobos; and works for viola, clarinet and piano. (Free)
  • Oct. 5, 12:30 p.m., Temple Har Shalom (3700 N. Brookside Court, Park City) – “30th Season Gala Celebration Salon Concert.” The salon concert features Steinway artist and former Gina Bachauer International Piano Competition winner Michael Gurt, piano, Russell Harlow, clarinet, and Leslie Harlow, viola. Program: Selections from Clementi’s Piano Sonata in F sharp minor; Brahms’ Klavierstücke, op. 119, and Sonata in F minor, op. 120, no. 1, for clarinet and piano; solo piano works by Heitor Villa-Lobos; and salon works for viola, clarinet and piano.   • Oct. 10, 7 p.m., Park City Community Church (Hwy. 224 at Bear Hollow Dr.) – “Artist Showcase Concert.” The concert features Russell Harlow, clarinet, Leslie Harlow, viola, and pianist Bryan Stanley. Program: Chopin’s Sonata No. 3 in B minor; Widor’s Introduction and Rondo for Clarinet and Piano; Bryan Stanley’s Piano Preludes; Reinecke’s Trio for Viola, Clarinet and Piano; and short works by Ravel, Gerster, and Beethoven. ($20 general, $15 seniors/students)
  • Oct. 19, 5:30 p.m., The Paint Mixer Studio (738 Main St., Park City) –“Special Event.” Try your hand at painting a masterpiece while enjoying live performances of chamber music masterpieces. The event features Russell Harlow, clarinet, Leslie Harlow, viola, and pianist Bryan Stanley. Ticket price includes all painting supplies and hors d’oeuvres; wine is available for an additional charge.
