Beethoven Festival Park City Autumn Classics Concerts coming up

Beethoven Festival Director Leslie Harlow, “We created the Autumn Classics Festival, in part, because Park City is such an inspiring place to be this time of year. Fall is the perfect time to get out and see the spectacular scenery, enjoy walks in the woods, take photos and indulge in intimate concerts indoors. For these four concerts a group of our favorite artists are offering rich works to match the scenery. It is always pleasure to bring the finest artists to the town we love, performing for our chamber music friends the music we love.”

Weekend 1
For Friday, October 2 at 8PM
Virtuoso violinist and long-time festival favorite Paul Rosenthal and Steinway Artist John Novacek helped design a rich program of the Brahms Piano Trio No. 3, Beethoven’s Piano Sonata No. 6 and Schumann’s “Fairy Tales” for Clarinet, Viola and Piano. Up-and-coming star violinist Simon Gollo is adding the fiery work “Tsigane” (translated: “Gypsy”) by Ravel. This first concert will be held at the Park City Community Church, taking advantage of their fine Bechstein concert grand piano and wonderful acoustics. Concertgoers can purchase tickets online or easily buy them at the door. Purchase Tickets Online

Sunday, October 4 at 3PM, the afternoon concert will be presented at Temple Har Shalom in the beautiful atrium area with a beautiful view of the outdoors. Violinist Paul Rosenthal and pianist John Novacek will again offer up a favorite Brahms work: the 2nd Sonata for Violin and Piano in A Major. Pianist John Novacek will team join Festival Artists-in-Residence Russell Harlow on clarinet and Leslie Harlow on viola for three beautiful romantic portraits by Bruch from his collection of “Eight Works”. In the same set they are adding the waltz movement from his “Double Concerto” for Clarinet and Viola. The second half of the concert will feature the romantic and impressive Quintet for Piano, Violins, Viola and Cello in C Major, Opus 1. Cellist Cheung Chau has been delighting audiences with his stunning playing after joining the Festival roster in recent years, and he will join violinists Rosenthal and Gollo, violist Harlow and pianist John Novacek for this masterpiece. Again, concertgoers can purchase their tickets for this concert at the door, or conveniently in advance online. Purchase Tickets Online

Weekend 2
Pianist Bryan Stanley spent many years in the Park City Community both as a teacher for younger students and advanced adult pianists, as well as directing the choir at the Park City Community Church. He recently married pianist Kristín Jónína Taylor and they both teach and perform at Waldorf College in Iowa. For a number of those years Dr. Stanley and the Harlows began performing together, not only presenting more formal concerts, but visiting nursing homes and performing for the residents and their families. The Harlows have invited Bryan back to perform with at the Festival for two concerts as part of the Autumn Classics.

On Saturday evening, October 10 at 6:30PM, the Festival is offering its popular Chamber Music and Dinner Concerts at the Park City Community Church in the Social Hall. The acoustics in the Social Hall are wonderful and the audience enjoys mingling during the dining. As with the Festival’s Salon Concerts in homes, the evening begins with the generous buffet and after the guests have had a chance to dine, the artists present their first portion of the program. The Festival is delighted to include mezzo-soprano Gretchen Windt, pianist Bryan Stanley, clarinetist Russell Harlow and violist Leslie Harlow as the performers for the evening.  Following the music, dessert is added to the buffet and everyone is invited to enjoy more dining before the artists take the stage again for more beautiful “salon” works. Following the music, artists and guests enjoy mingling and dessert, reception-style. The minimum donation for this event is $35 per person. Reservations can be made by email, phone or online for this event. Tickets can be purchased at the door as well. Online Reservations and Ticket Purchase

Sunday afternoon, October 11 at 3PM, the Autumn Classics Concerts will conclude with selections from the program the Harlows and Dr. Stanley will perform in November on the Waldorf Community Concerts Series (Iowa): The Trio for Viola, Clarinet and Piano by Reinecke, a romantic work that features the piano in virtuoso style, the Brahms “Alto Songs” featuring Mezzo-soprano Gretchen Windt, Leslie Harlow and Bryan Stanley, the cool and lyrical “Sonata for Viola and Piano” by Otto Gerster and an aria by Monteverdi transcribed for Clarinet, Viola and Piano. The Brahms “Alto Songs” were made famous by singer Marion Anderson and violist William Primrose. Purchase Tickets Online
