BACHAUER’S 40TH ANNIVERSARY SEASON BEGINS OCT. 23

The Gina Bachauer International Piano Foundation has issued the following press release detailing upcoming events for its 40th anniversary season:

From its beginnings in 1976 as a summer festival, to now offering full seasons of competitions, concerts, festivals, school concerts and master classes, the Gina Bachauer International Piano Foundation has become a truly international organization achieving extraordinary results.

The Gina Bachauer Foundation has brought international recognition to Salt Lake City, with former governor Mike Leavitt even proclaiming June to be “Piano Month” in Utah. To commemorate our 40 years we offer an impressive season of returning favorites in concert, and we begin the exciting process of discovering the next young piano talents!

The 40th Anniversary Season will open on Friday, Oct. 23 at 7:30 p.m. with Argentinian pianist Mirian Conti collaborating with narrator Anne Cullimore Decker for Poulenc’s Babar the Elephant.

The exciting process of discovering the next young piano talents then begins with live auditions held in 11 cities worldwide. After screening approximately 300 hopeful applicants, 50 exceptionally talented young pianists will be invited to compete in Salt Lake City in June 2016. Mark your calendars now to be part of Gina Bachauer’s 40-year celebration!

The Paul Pollei Commemorative Concert Series:

  • Oct. 23: Mirian Conti with Anne Cullimore Decker; South American music specialist delights in Babar the Elephant, Chopin Mazurkas and Argentinian Tangos.
  • Feb. 5, 2016: Cheng-Chow Trio; three Bachauer Laureates take the stage with captivating arrangements of Fauré, Brahms, Rachmaninoff and Bernstein.
  • March 19, 2016: Armen Babakhanian, Bachauer Silver Medalist from Armenia, provokes with the passion of Beethoven, Liszt and the Four Chopin Ballades.
  • April 30, 2016: Chow Duo; Alan and Alvin Chow, twin brothers and Bachauer Laureates, delight with two-piano music of Copland, Gershwin, Milhaud and Corigliano.

All concerts begin at 7:30 p.m. in the Rose Wagner Performing Arts Center (138 W. Broadway). Tickets are $20 for general; $15 for seniors; and $8 for students.   • February 6-9, 2016: International Audition Tour in Salt Lake City; free and open to the public at Rose Wagner Performing Arts Center.
  • June 13-18, 2016: Gina Bachauer Junior International Piano Competition; all rounds at the Rose Wagner Performing Arts Center.
  • June 21-28, 2016: Gina Bachauer Young Artists International Piano Competition; final round with the Utah Symphony at Abravanel Hall.
